Poplar Grove United Methodist Church

Poplar Grove, IL

The Congregation of the Poplar Grove United Methodist Church requested a new facility which looked like a “church” and recalled the image of a white country church, similar to their present facility.  In addition, contemporary and flexible space planning was a requirement.

The 14,000 SF plan features a 240 seat Sanctuary with an attached Fellowship Hall for dining of up to 200 people.  The use of movable sanctuary furnishings allows the large “celebration space” to serve many functions while still providing sound isolated spaces when the partitions are closed.

Mr. Saavedra served as Principal in Charge and Senior Project Architect, respectively, on this project.

Poplar Grove United Methodist Church was recognized as one of the top three projects constructed over a six year period in northern Illinois.  It received an Honor Award for Excellence in Architecture from the American Institute of Architects in February of 2001.
